Rick and Morty Season 6’s big finale has finally aired, wrapping things up with a bang! The sixth season of the long-running animated series Adult Swim is off to a promising start. After a season 5 finale that saw Evil Morty enact his grand plan, the first few episodes of season 6 kicked things off with a fresh start that not only offered new adventures, but plenty of opportunities to showcase new sides of each. Smith family members. But there was the question of how it could all end.
With Season 6 introducing some great new villains, and fans introducing new layers of Rick and Morty characters at the end, there’s been a lot of anticipation as to how the season will play out. The finales from the past few seasons have generally been eventful, and thus fans had no idea what to expect from this Christmas finale. As for what happened, here’s everything that happened during the Rick and Morty season 6 finale, “Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation”:
What happens at the end of the sixth season of Rick and Morty?
- The Smith family is celebrating Christmas, and Rick has been given presents from all over the multiverse. For example, Rick gets Morty a working lightsaber, and Rick gives him the full experience with a “knock him down” that turns him into a pile of clothes like Obi-Wan. Here Morty thanks Rick for being so good to the family, but Morty drops his lightsaber and starts tearing up the floors of Rick’s lab.
- Heading straight down, it is soon revealed that the Rick who is with them is actually a robot (not long before the episode of the Sun Knights), and the real Rick was looking for Rick Prime. But Morty is angry that the family now loves this new version of Rick, and forces the robot to keep lying to the rest of the family. Soon after, the Chief arrives and tells Morty that when the lightsaber he dropped hits the core, the planet will explode.
- Morty begins to cry, and the Chief decides to help him retrieve the lightsaber. Meanwhile, the real Rick sees the two working together and is furious about it. Meanwhile, the family still loves spending time with Rick the robot. When things don’t go well, Morty tells Rick to destroy the plunging lightsaber instead and reveals one of his own that shoots straight and heads off to stop the other. But she soon fights back and heads to Italy instead and starts killing people.
- At that time, the robot Rick tries to admit that he is a robot, but is agonizing over the fact that if he tells them he will die. But the game he tries to play with them telling them he’s a robot instead brings them closer as a family. Arguing further, Rick reveals that he replaced himself with a robot when Morty started disrespecting him in the Sun Knights episode when he called him bored and doing his own thing. He was holding back his true feelings.
- When Morty and the Chief manage to stop the lightsaber from reaching the heart, the Chief ends up taking it from him noting that he’s been a Star Wars fan for longer, and even noticing that it made him angry when he started getting “puppy” on the third. After commercial hiatus, Robot Rick makes such an impact that Jerry gives him the honor of carving Christmas dinner. But soon Morty arrives and reveals that he is a robot.
- Summer and the two Beths start brutally attacking the robot Rick because they’re so angry they rip it apart. Meanwhile, the Chief drops the lightsaber to the ground like Morty did before. Soon after, the Chief informs the rest of the country that Earth is now in danger and blames Morty for the lightsaber falling through the heart. He flew into space in order to escape, and needing help without Rick (who has disappeared since his fallout with Morty and continues to work on his experiments on Rick Prime), the robot Rick has been reactivated by the Smith family.
- Rick soon tries to find Rick Prime, but is again thwarted when the device picks up several different locations. Robot Rick and Morty are able to get the lightsaber and head for the boss to attack him. It was soon revealed that part of the White House was actually a replica of Star Wars. Fighting starts to break out, and all the while Morty and the Chief are talking about the current state of the Star Wars movies. After hitting the boss, a few lightsabers returned to Earth.
- Morty weeps over Robot Rick who tried to save the Chief, and reveals that Rick created him specifically to better Morty’s life. But the boss gets away with it, and since then Rick has agreed to let Morty in on his hunt. He explains that he has found all the places where Rick Prime is currently, and announces that the two will hunt down Rick Prime in season seven. He declares that Morty “asked for it,” and that seems to be where the season from now on goes off.
- After the credits, an update from Mr. Poopybutthole reveals that he’s been working out a lot since he broke up with his wife and she took their child. Now it is basically a wreck.
